Thousands of visitors flocked to Peterborough earlier this month to see a record number of Shire horses compete in the largest show of its kind in the world.
The Shire Horse Society Spring Show 2007, held on March 17th and 18th at the East of England Showground, saw 200 gentle giants of the equine world expertly presented and dressed in their traditional glory.

The event gave Thwaites the opportunity to showcase its hand painted new dray, specially commissioned to mark the brewery’s 200 year celebrations.
Daniel Thwaites’ horses won two major awards at the world-renowned event, coming first in the Team of 3 or 4 Heavy Horses class and 2nd in the Pair of Heavy Horses class.
Brian Hickman, managing director, said: “We’re delighted to win two awards at the prestigious show. The team worked extremely hard and we were very proud to be competing with the world’s finest.
“Although distribution has changed considerably since the days when we relied on our world famous Shire horses to transport our products, the horses and horsemen remain a key element within the Daniel Thwaites brewery.
”As we mark two centuries of trading it is great to see the history of the brewery being honoured in this way.”
The Shire Horse Society Spring Show is an annual event to help raise funds to support the breed so future generations can enjoy the giant horses.
