Thwaites Lends its Support to Charity Walk

Lancashire-based brewer Thwaites is lending its support to the Light the Wainwrights sponsored walk arranged by Surrey Police in memory of their colleague, detective constable Heather Cooper.

Sergeant Ian Davis wanted to remember his esteemed colleague who passed away last November and raise money for the 33-year-old’s two young children. He came up with the idea of arranging for teams of walkers to simultaneously complete the 214 Wainwright peaks and light a lamp in Heather’s memory when they reach the summit.

Family-owned brewery Thwaites, who brew Wainwright 4.1% golden ale is providing the teams with Wainwright Walking Kits and a team of employees will be undertaking the walk to raise funds for the worthwhile cause.

Lee Williams, marketing manager of Thwaites, said: “We wanted to support the walk, firstly as it’s such a great cause and secondly because Thwaites Wainwright took its inspiration from Alfred Wainwright, the famous son of Blackburn who of course created these 214 Lakeland fell walks.

“In particular, our own Thwaites team is looking forward to climbing High Street and raising money for such a great cause and I hope the walking kits will assist the teams in completing their challenge.”

The event, appropriately named ‘Light the Wainwrights’, will take place on 28th April 2012.
