What is your cancellation policy?
As long as you cancel your booking before 10am on the day before you’re due to arrive, there will be no charge. Bookings cancelled after 10:00am on the day before you’re due to arrive will be charged for the first night’s stay. No Shows will be charged for the first night’s stay.
What is the Advance Purchase Cancellation policy?
Your credit or debit card will have been charged at the time of booking, and this is a non-refundable, non-transferable amount. Should you need to cancel there will be no refund applicable.
Yes Character Rooms. £25.00 additional charge per night. All our rooms are very individual and offer the same home comforts throughout – but a couple of them have wonderful beams and some extra special views over the village and fells or patio and river and will be just the inspiration you need to jump out of bed in a morning. Just let us know if you’d like to book one of these when you make your reservation.
Do you hold rooms provisionally?
No we take a credit card to guarantee reservations and our cancellation policy then applies.

Available at £10.00 subject to availability until a maximum of 2pm.
What is offered in the guest rooms?
Tea and coffee making facilities, en-suite bathroom with bath and/or shower, complimentary toiletries, complimentary wi-fi, bottled water.
Do you have a room with a bath?
Yes - but not all our rooms have a bath so please specify at the time of booking if this is important to you.
Do you have travel cots/Z-beds available? Do you charge for it?
Yes, we have a limited supply and there is no charge, please let us know if you need either when you book so we can make sure they are in your room ready for arrival.
What are the bar’s opening times?
The bar opens from 11.00am to 11.00pm each day, except Sunday when we close the shutters at 10.30pm for an early night !
What time is food served ?
We serve breakfast from 7am to 10am each day and then an all-day menu from 12 noon till 10pm.
Is wifi available?
Wifi is now available in all rooms and all public areas – we’re not one to boast but we think it’s the fastest in the village !
Is car parking available?
We don’t have any dedicated car parking facilities however there are 2 public car parks in the village where charges apply, and limited short stay parking directly in front of the inn.
Can you provide directions to the inn?
Just follow the A592 from Penrith towards Pooley Bridge. At the T junction take the left turn on the B5320 and as you cross over the bridge the Crown is on the right hand side just after the post office.
Are pets allowed?
Yes – We do charge £15 per stay for your dog to join you in your room; this is so we can give the room the extra special attention needed afterwards to ensure is pristine for the next arrivals. We’ll donate 10% of this to the Lake District Search and Rescue Dogs Association.
Are dogs allowed in the bar?
We love to welcome well-behaved owners and their dogs to the inn, but please be aware that not everyone loves your dog as much as you do. To help us keep happy customers of both 2 and 4 legged varieties please observe our simple requests:
- Dogs are allowed in the bar area, but not in the dining only areas
- Please don’t let your dog jump or pester other guests, or their pets or disturb others by barking
- Make sure your dog is clean and dry before they come in to the inn
Is there disabled access?
We do have one guest room that is accessible at ground floor level, however the remainder of the rooms are up at least one flight of stairs.
Do you have cycle storage?
Cycles can be stored by prior arrangement
Do you serve breakfast?
Yes, from 7am to 10am each day come rain or shine.

What is there to see and do in the local area?
We’re at the heart of one of the most beautiful places in the world ( OK – we’re biased) – but there really is no shortage of glorious walks, from an easy ramble to a full on hike. Ullswater Steamers are neighbours to us and a great way to see the Lakes from water.
What are the local towns?
Penrith is just 6 miles away from us and the nearest town of size.
