What is your cancellation policy?
As long as you cancel your booking before 10am on the day before you’re due to arrive, there will be no charge. Bookings cancelled after 10:00am on the day before you’re due to arrive will be charged for the first night’s stay. No Shows will be charged for the first night’s stay.
What is the Advance Purchase Cancellation policy?
Your credit or debit card will have been charged at the time of booking, and this is a non-refundable, non-transferable amount. Should you need to cancel there will be no refund applicable.
Are there different room types to choose from?
Yes we have some larger Character and Royal rooms - please call the inn direct to reserve these rooms.
Do you hold rooms provisionally?
No we take a credit card to guarantee reservations and our cancellation policy then applies.
Do you offer a dinner inclusive rate?
Yes - we do offer a rate including dinner, please call for more information.

Yes, we have a limited supply and there is no charge.
What are the bar’s opening times?
The bar opens from 10.00am to 11.00pm Monday to Saturday, 10:00am until 10:30pm on Sunday.

Is car parking available?
We don't have car parking at the inn - but you'll find directions to closest car park here.
Enter Keswick via the A66 (from Penrith) or the A591 (from Kendal). Follow Penrith Road towards the town up a small hill towards a crossroads. Continue over a pedestrian crossing and take the second turning on the right. You will see Otley Road car park on your right. It’s just a 3 minute walk to The Royal Oak at Keswick from here.
Can you provide directions?
From the M6 motorway – Exit the M6 at Junction 40 (Penrith) and continue westwards on the A66 until you see the Keswick sign. Head towards the town centre along Penrith Road until you reach a crossroads with the War Memorial on your right. Turn left into Station Street and you will see The Royal Oak at Keswick 100 yards down the street on your right. By Rail – Penrith, Carlisle and Kendal are served by fast, frequent Intercity Services from all over the country. The nearest railway station to Keswick is Penrith, on the West Coast Main Line, a distance of 17 miles. A bus service, taking forty minutes, connects Penrith railway station with Keswick Bus Station. Taxis from Keswick will meet trains at Penrith by prior arrangement.
Are pets allowed?
Charged at £15.00 per room, per stay some of our rooms include a cushion and water bowl for your four-legged friend too – so your dog can enjoy a relaxing break in The Lakes with you. Just let us know when you book your stay and we’ll do our best to accommodate – in fact, just let us know if there’s anything we can do at all as we’re passionate about doing everything we can to make your stay memorable.
Are dogs allowed in the bar ?
We love to welcome well-behaved owners and their dogs to the inn, but please be aware that not everyone loves your dog as much as you do. To help us keep happy customers of both 2 and 4 legged varieties please observe our simple requests:
- Dogs are allowed in the bar area, but not in the dining only areas
- Please don’t let your dog jump or pester other guests, or their pets or disturb others by barking
- Make sure your dog is clean and dry before they come in to the inn
Is there disabled access?
The doors in to the main building are double doors with 2 steps; The bar and dining room are on one level; There is a disabled public toilet with an alarm on the ground floor; Lighting throughout is ‘atmospheric’ – but many tables are close to the window with increased natural daylight.
Do you have cycle storage/drying room?
We can store 2/3 bikes, however there is no drying room.
Food is served from breakfast right through until 10.00pm at night - giving you every excuse to enjoy a ten hour hike in Cumbrian mountains - or an extra forty winks in your room...
...and if you take your food seriously - rest assured - so do we. So much so that we’ve a totally fresh and seasonal approach to all that we do.
When you’re ready for a drink our bar is open 11:00am to 11:00pm Monday to Saturday, with an early finish for tired eyes and legs on a Sunday at 10:30pm, and although we don’t have a resident’s bar you are more than welcome at last orders to buy a couple of extra drinks to take up to your room.
Do you serve breakfast?
Breakfast is served downstairs in the main restaurant area from 8am – 10am each morning. You can choose from a freshly cooked full Cumbrian (like a full English – but better) breakfast or we have lighter options to suit all taste-buds..
If you’re on a tight schedule or heading off to the hills for the day and require an earlier start just let us know the night before and we will rustle up breakfast or a takeaway bacon bap if you need to get on your way. We can even fill your flask or provide you with a freshly brewed coffee to go!
Can you organize packed lunches for the morning? What do we get and how much does it cost?
We offer a selection of picnics - whether it’s a simple re-fuelling exercise up the fell or a more leisurely lunch by the lake. Please ask the team downstairs and we’ll prepare one to meet your budget and appetites.
And if you’re planning to arrive back once the dining room has closed, you can pre-order a hamper for your room.
