A blooming lovely day with Langdale Chase

Windermere’s newest five-star hotel, Langdale Chase– part of Thwaites – has partnered with Goodly Dale Community Primary School to sow the seeds of the future.

11th November 2024…// On Monday 4th November, staff from Langdale Chase, including general manager, Mike Vincent, and head gardener, Claire Farrington joined forces with the school’s eco club to plant a mix of 750 different daffodils within the school grounds.

Thwaites kindly donated the daffodils, and the mix included four varieties – ‘Ice King’, ‘Ice Follies’, ‘Golden Anniversary’, and ‘King Alfred’. Differing in their flower colour, height and flowering time, the display will offer an interesting and long-lasting showcase this spring.

Rick Bailey, executive chairman at Thwaites, commented: “It was great to do something positive for the wider Windermere community. We really enjoyed working with the students at the school and were very impressed by their planting skills.

“At Langdale Chase, we are avid gardeners, and we are proactively looking to inspire the next generation. We hope everyone in the school and neighbouring areas will enjoy the display.”

Standing on the shores of Windermere, Langdale Chase has been welcoming visitors since 1891. Following a careful and sensitive restoration, visitors will discover a new era of laid-back luxury and style.

Planned and laid out by renowned landscape gardener Thomas Mawson, the hotel’s gardens retain many original features. Today, under the guidance and support of internationally recognised garden designer Annie Guilfoyle and her team, Head Gardener Claire Farrington is bringing our gardens back to their former glory as part of an ambitious multi-year project.
