Oliver Stott has been appointed as the new general manager at the multi-award-winning Middletons Hotel in York.
28th January 2025…// With 22 years of experience across the hospitality industry, Oliver has also carved out an impressive career in management, working in four and five-star establishments across the UK. His career has seen him take on various management roles, ranging from smaller hotels to other premium brands, including Malmaison, Dakota Hotels and Radisson Blu.
Prior to joining Middletons Hotel, Oliver spent three years working for Cedar Court Hotels in Harrogate as the general manager. No stranger to Thwaites, Oliver worked with Thwaites at Thorpe Park Hotel and Spa in Leeds as the food and beverage manager, after completing the company’s graduate programme.
Oliver is also a member of the Institute of Hospitality and has recently joined the Board of Directors for York BID.
Speaking on his new appointment, Oliver said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be at the helm of Middletons Hotel, which has historically been well regarded within the local and wider area. Becoming a part of this team is a privilege, and it feels like the perfect time to have joined as I look forward to continuing to contribute to the hotel’s success.”
“Thwaites is a family-owned, welcoming business and I’ve had a wonderful introduction to its award-winning property portfolio. The onboarding process has been second to none and having the opportunity to travel around the other stunning hotels, spas and inns, meeting the teams and central support functions has provided me with great insight.”
When asked about future plans, Oliver also commented: “Thwaites constantly reinvests profits into developing the business, so we’re looking forward to opening a new on-site gin distillery brought to guests by York Gin, as well as the launch of The Curious Kitchen – a new culinary in-house experience for our guests. Ultimately, we’re intent on maintaining Middletons Hotel as a leading destination in York.”
Rick Bailey, executive chairman at Thwaites, also commented: “We’re thrilled to appoint Oliver as Middletons’ new general manager and have every faith that he will use his wealth of experience and expertise to continue the hotel’s immense success. His passion for the industry, combined with his proven leadership and financial acumen, made him the obvious choice for the role, and we can’t wait to see what he achieves.”
