Langdale Chase Named in The Sunday Times ‘50 Best Places to Stay’ 2026
The only hotel in Cumbria to make this year’s prestigious list
16th March 2026…// Five-star Lake District hotel Langdale Chase, part of the Thwaites collection of inns and hotels, has been named one of The Sunday Times’ ’50 Best Places to Stay’ in the UK, making it the only hotel in Cumbria and one of just two properties in the North West to feature on the prestigious list.
The annual list celebrates the most outstanding hotels across the UK, chosen by the publication’s experienced travel writers after visiting hundreds of properties across the country. With an outstanding review score of 9/10, Langdale Chase joins the country’s most exceptional places to stay, recognised for its idyllic lakeside setting on Windermere, beautifully restored Victorian interiors, warm hospitality and standout guest experiences including sailings aboard its 1920s mahogany yacht, Albatros.
Situated on the banks of Lake Windermere, Langdale Chase has become one of the Lake District’s most talked-about luxury stays following its multi-million-pound refurbishment, restoration and reopening in December 2023.
Rick Bailey, Executive Chairman at Thwaites, comments: “To see Langdale Chase recognised in The Sunday Times 50 Best Places to Stay in the UK for 2026 is fantastic, both for the incredible team and for the Lake District. The hotel has such a special sense of place, from its setting on the shores of Lake Windermere to its beautifully restored Victorian character, and it’s been wonderful to see guests fall in love with it since reopening. We’re incredibly proud it has been recognised among the very best places to stay in the country for the third year running.”
Langdale Chase is regarded as the best lakeside address in the Lake District National Park. The 30-room Grade II listed property has seven spacious suites, five dog friendly rooms, an AA Rosette restaurant, art deco style bar and cinema room alongside activities including paddle boarding, guided hiking, guided wild swimming and sailing on Albatros – the beautifully restored 1920s motor yacht, which offers a timeless way to experience the lake.
